The Saint Lucia National Trust is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a series of heritage conservation activities.

As part of its 40th anniversary celebrations, the Saint Lucia National Trust (SLNT) will host a Helen Arts Exhibition and Recruitment Drive from Sep. 21 to 25 at the Blue Coral Mall, Castries.

Karetta Crooks Charles, Communications and Advocacy Officer at the Trust, said the exhibition will feature work by the Hon. Derek Walcott, the late Dunstan St. Omer, and Nancy Cole, among others.

“This collection looks at natural heritage through the arts. We’re hoping that schools in the Castries area will come and take a look at the exhibition as well as the general public. It is an opportunity to renew your membership and for new members to join in.”

The Saint Lucia National Trust will also host the annual Trust Pioneers lecture on Sep. 24. The lecture will focus on the protection of Saint Lucia’s historical heritage.

“The lecture will be held at the Bay Gardens Hotel, and will begin at 5:45 p.m. The guest speaker is historian Dr. Lennox Honeychurch, and he will be speaking on the theme "Caribbean Landmarks: Heritage Sites for National Development," Charles said. "Although it is free, I am encouraging persons to contact us to register because we have to ensure that there is adequate seating available."

The Trust will produce a documentary and a publication, highlighting the work of the organization over forty years. There will also be several membership tours, including a trip to Soufriere and Morne Pavillion.

The Saint Lucia National Trust was established by an act of parliament in 1975. Its mandate is to protect and conserve the natural and cultural heritage of Saint Lucia.
