MIT professor to speak at lecture series

MR. ANANT ARGAWAL IS A PROFESSOR OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING AND COMPUTER SCIENCE.

MIT Professor and CEO of edX, an open online course provider, Anant Argawal will be the special guest of the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College for the lecture series Up/Rising: The Illumination Series.

The public is invited to attend Mr. Argawal’s presentation which takes place on Wednesday, April 25 at 1 p.m. at the College’s Morne campus in the CEHI Building, Room Two. The lecture will focus on open learning opportunities for the college and Saint Lucia in general.

Mr. Argawal is a professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is a successful serial entrepreneur, having co-founded several companies including Tilera Corporation, which created the Tile multicore processor, and Virtual Machine Works.

EdX is a not-for-profit venture created by Harvard University and the MIT, focused on transforming online and on-campus learning through ground-breaking methodologies, game-like experiences and cutting-edge research. EdX provides inspirational and transformative knowledge to students of all ages, social statuses, and incomes who form worldwide communities of learners. The Sir Arthur Lewis Community College is pleased to partner with such a luminary as the college aims to encourage the sharing of knowledge through The Illumination Lecture Series.

This is the fourth lecture in the series which began in February 2018. Previous lecturers have come from the college and they have presented on research conducted as part of their degree programmes.

The lecture series is designed to help faculty, researchers and experts in their fields to share research, ideas and innovation with the broader community consequently resulting in a more informed citizenry.
