The tow truck will boost time efficiency and lessen expenses by eliminating the cost of hiring an external party.

The Government of Japan, under the Japan non-project Grant Aid Initiative recently donated a safety loader truck also known as a tow truck to the Ministry of Infrastructure, Ports, Energy and Labour.

The tow truck will be used to haul the department’s vehicles, and will have the result of boosting time efficiency and lower the department’s expenses by eliminating the cost of hiring an external party.

Ivor Daniel, Permanent Secretary in the Department of Infrastructure, Ports and Energy, welcomed the donation.

“The intention of the safety loader truck is to tow the ministry’s vehicles, and this service we hope to extend to the [wider] government. There are quite a number of benefits [to having our own tow truck] because we have had vehicles that have broken down, and we have had difficulty getting towing on time, and it is also a very costly venture to have it towed.

“They also provided a certain quantum of spare parts so at least we can carry out one or two of our initial servicing of this piece of equipment.

“The staff are excited, and I am excited about the prospects of it, and the fact that we will be able to provide the necessary assistance to other agencies of government who would so require such a service.”

The specifications for the tow truck were developed and agreed to with the Department of Infrastructure, Ports and Energy, through its mechanical engineer.

The safety loader truck has been commissioned, and the requisite training in maintenance and operation is being provided to staff, Mr. Daniel added.
