The Entrepot Secondary School held a plaque unveiling in honor of the Olympic high jumper.

The Department of Youth Development and Sports in collaboration with the Entrepot Secondary School recently held a plaque unveiling ceremony in recognition of Saint Lucia’s Olympian, high jumper Levern Spencer.

The ceremony took place on the grounds of Entrepot Secondary School.

A past student of the institution, Spencer  graduated in the class of 2002.

Addressing those in attendance, Spencer stated that she owed a lot of her success to the school.

“Everytime I get the opportunity to visit the Entrepot Secondary School I always count it a privilege, but for today's special plaque unveiling ceremony, it is even more than a privilege," she said. "I am truly honored to be here for this event. No need to tell you that when I entered this institution in 1997,  I did not forsee a day like today coming. But what I do know is that while I was a student, I worked hard and I knew that I was going to make my life a success in whatever field God wanted me to excel.

"As I witnessed the graduation and awards ceremonies of this school I could not help but reflect on the contribution that Entrepot Secondary has had, on not only my sporting career but my life as a person.”

Spencer also shared words of encouragement.

“I want to encourage the students present to strive for excellence in your academics, sports and any other field that you may decide to persue. Never settle for mediocrity. Surround yourself with positive people who will support you and help you get to wherever you want to be, and don’t allow anyone to stand in the way of your dream."

Also present at the ceremony were Hon. Edmund Estephane, Minister for Youth Development and Sports; and Sen. Hon. Fortuna Belrose, Minister for Local Government and Culture.
